Oudtshoorn Municipality Mayoral Sport Awards 2025

PRIMARY SCHOOL SPORTS TEAM

Winner: Saturnus Drum Majorettes (Saturnus Primary School)
The team achieved exceptional results at the SAMCA Nationals 2025, securing 1st place in the Primary President’s Challenge Cup, Primary Flag Group, Pom Non-Prop Group, Display, and Small Drill. They also placed 2nd overall in the SA Drum Majorettes Mace Group and Small Drill Squad, and 3rd in the Sub Leader category for Small Drill.

PRIMARY SCHOOL COACH

Winner: Jamie Lee Botha (Saturnus Primary Drum Majorettes)

Jamie Lee Botha coached the team to multiple 1st-place finishes at the National Championships, including Flag Group, Pom Non-Prop Group, Small Drill – Display, and Small Drill. The team also placed 2nd in the Mace Group and Small Drill Squad, and 3rd in Small Drill – Sub Leader. She further guided the team to victory as SWD champions in the Premier – Presidents Liga.

PRIMARY SCHOOL SPORTSWOMAN

Winner: Helena Lourens (Wesbank Primary School)

Helena earned 1st place in the 1200m at the Eden Athletics Meeting and the Western Cape Athletics Championships, and finished 3rd at the SA Athletics Championships. She qualified for the Eden Duathlon, achieved provincial colours, and also secured colours in cross-country.

PRIMARY SCHOOL SPORTSMAN

Winner: Nickyle Augustus

Nickyle won 1st place in the 100m at the SA Athletics U/12 Championships and is recognised as the fastest U/12 100m athlete in South Africa. He received sponsorship from ASA, Wayde van Niekerk, and Akani Simbine. He participated in U/13 A Craven Week Rugby and U/12 SWD Rugby, and represented Eden and Western Cape in athletics.

ROLL OF HONOR

Raymondo Botha, who passed away earlier this year, was a player for All Blacks RFC, Collegians RFC, and Bridgton RFC.

LEGENDS OF SPORT

Jason Jafta (Marathon): Completed his 32nd Comrades Marathon (bronze), 29th Outeniqua Marathon (gold), and 40th Cango Marathon (gold).
Garnett Wicomb (Tennis): Served as captain of the South Africa 80+ men’s team at the ITF World Championships in Croatia (05–11 October 2025).
Johann Coetzer (Athletics): Achieved gold in the 100m and 200m, setting new SWD records at ASWD; won gold in long jump at SA Masters 2025; received national colours in long jump and high jump (2025 renewal).
Isak Boshoff (Cycling): A member of the Oudtshoorn Cycling Club since 1966; 37-time club champion; represented SWD (1971–1984), OP (1969), NTVL (1970), and SANDF (1984–2015).

HIGH SCHOOL COACH

Winner: Megan Presher

Megan led the national team to 3rd place in the Elite Division, with 10 athletes earning SA colours. She coached the provincial team to 1st place in all 10 categories, and guided the SWD team to 2nd at the interprovincial competition. The SWD team was the only A Division (Elite) entry from the region, achieving 4th overall and 3rd at nationals.

HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS TEAM

Winner: Oudtshoorn Vaardigheidskool Tug-O-War (460kg)

The team earned 2nd place (silver) at the SA Junior Championships and finished 4th at the Western Cape Westcliff Tournament.

HIGH SCHOOL SPORTSWOMAN

Winner: Tamaré Stewart

Tamaré won all matches at the ITP as Eden’s No. 1 girls’ player and was selected for the SA Schools team tour to London in June 2025. This marks her sixth consecutive year as Eden’s top-ranked player. She won all singles matches at the Synergy Cup, claimed the O/16 girls title at the Mandela Summer Challenge, and ranked in the top 20 on the TSA national list (O/15: 16th; O/16: 19th).

HIGH SCHOOL SPORTSMAN

Winner: Fourie Delport

At age 14, Fourie is the No. 1 boys’ tennis player at Langenhoven Gimnasium. He represented the Eden O/15 team, won the Eden Grand Prix boys O/14 singles by defeating the SA No. 1, and remained undefeated in singles and doubles at the Synergy Cup O/15. He completed an unbeaten school tennis season and was selected for the SA Schools team competing in London in July 2025.

SCHOOL SPORT ADMINISTRATOR

Winner: C.M Arries

C.M. Arries managed nine cyclists on the Eden team, with U/17 boys finishing in the national top 30 (one placing 8th) and U/15 boys in the top 20. Two cyclists represented the Western Cape, finishing in the national top 10. Arries is also the recipient of the 2025 Premier’s Award.

SPORTSPERSON WITH A DISABILITY

Winner: Roberto Harmse

Roberto represented Boland Blind School at the BCSA T20 Nationals in Stellenbosch and earned provincial colours for the Boland Blind Cricket Team. He scored an unbeaten 54 in a match-winning performance during a provincial One-Day fixture against Free State and is regarded as one of Boland’s most promising young players.

JUNIOR SPORTSWOMAN

Winner: Lume de Koker

Lume won gold in trampoline gymnastics (Level 7) at the SA Championships.

JUNIOR SPORTSMAN

Winner: Shaun Boshoff

Shaun achieved 3rd place at the International Strongman Games in the United States and set an official world record with a 291kg axle bar lift (18-inch).

SENIOR SPORT ADMINISTRATOR

Winner: Karin Bence

Karin is the only woman in South Africa qualified as a national referee for road, track, and mountain bike cycling. She has earned international recognition as a top referee and served as chief referee at major events, including the SA Elite Road and Time Trial Championships (2024/2025), Tour de Cup (2024/2025), and the Cape Town Cycle Tour, where she became the first woman appointed to this role for an event with 32,000 participants.

SENIOR SPORTS TEAM

Winner: Union Stars First Team

Winners of the 2024/2025 SWD Premier League.

SENIOR COACH

Winner: Elridge Booysen (Union Stars)

Head coach of the Union Stars team that won the 2024/2025 SWD Cricket Premier League.

SENIOR SPORTSWOMAN

Winner: Chaunique Bruce (Kickboxing)

Achieved two gold medals at each of the following: Battle of the Karoo, Eden Championships, Western Cape Championships, and the SA National Kickboxing Championships.

SENIOR SPORTSMAN

Winner: Wian Grebe (Kickboxing)

Secured gold and silver at the Battle of the Karoo, and achieved double gold at both the Eden Championships and the SAKA National Championships.
