Motorsport fans enjoyed a thrilling day of oval-track racing when the KKK Setup Race was held at the Oudtshoorn Oval Track on Saturday, 13 June.
Competitors from across the Western Cape and other parts of the country gathered to take part in several racing categories, delivering competitive action and entertaining spectators throughout the event.
In the popular RWD Legends class, local driver Vian Verwey secured first place, finishing ahead of fellow Oudtshoorn competitor Morné Pelser. Zané Fourie of George completed the podium in third position.
The Ninja Rods category saw Divan Meyer from George claim victory, while Dylan du Plessis from Cape Town finished in second place.
George drivers performed strongly in the 1600 Saloons division, with James Young taking the win and Johan Nortier securing second place. Troyden Maynard from Plettenberg Bay finished third.
Another closely contested category produced a victory for Jaun le Roux of Cape Town. Hendricus Botha from Oudtshoorn finished second, while Dominic Griessen, also representing Cape Town, claimed third place.
The Hotrods division was dominated by George competitors. Sydney van Rensburg crossed the finish line first, followed by Malan Walters in second and Cornel Krohn in third.
In the Heavy Metals category, Francois Smit from Worcester claimed top honours, while Graham Ferreira of George secured second place.
Local supporters had reason to celebrate in the American Saloons division, where Oudtshoorn’s Lucius Fourie took the victory. Piet Combrink from George finished second, while Lizmari O’Callaghan of Worcester completed the top three.
The 2.1 Modified Saloons category was won by Oudtshoorn driver Burger van der Westhuizen. Kobus Barnard from George finished in second place, with JP du Plessis from Plettenberg Bay securing third.
The event once again highlighted the growing popularity of oval-track racing in the Little Karoo. Drivers from a variety of towns travelled to Oudtshoorn to compete against some of the region’s leading racers, contributing to a successful and entertaining day of motorsport.
