Saturnus Primary Wins Presidents League Champ of Champs Title

The 2025 SAMCA (South African Majorette and Cheerleading Association) National Championships began in Oudtshoorn last week, bringing together top majorette and cheerleading teams from across the country. The event is being held at the Oudtshoorn Recreational Grounds from 4 to 12 July.
Saturnus Primary School from Oudtshoorn achieved a major milestone by winning the title of Overall Primary Schools Presidents League Champ of Champs. This marks a significant accomplishment for the school, especially as it was their debut appearance at the national championships. Sacred Heart Primary School also represented the region well, securing fourth place in the same category.
Team co-ordinator Murayda Human expressed her excitement about the team’s performance, along with coach Jamey-Lee Botha.
“This was our very first time competing at the SAMCA Nationals, and what an incredible experience it was! Earlier this year, we also took part in the SWD Championships, where we were crowned Champ of Champs. We are beyond happy and incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved!”
The cheerleading divisions of the championship concluded over the past weekend. The majorette competitions began on Monday, 7 July, with Saturnus Primary among the first teams to perform. Their strong opening set a positive tone for the rest of the week.
Other local schools, including Sacred Heart Primary and De Rust Primary, also participated in the Primary Schools Presidents League. All three Oudtshoorn schools demonstrated commendable skill and enthusiasm throughout the competition. (Courtesy of Liezl van Niekerk, Oudtshoorn Courant)
