Union Stars Cricket Club has successfully advanced to the final of the Six Gun Grill SWD Premier League. The Oudtshoorn-based team, which has claimed the premier league title eight times since 2010, will compete in their first final since the 2018/19 season, when they were defeated by Nelson Mandela Bay University.
The club secured the top position on the league table following the pool stages, despite a challenging final round of matches. Union Stars were awarded full match points after Knysna Cavaliers forfeited their scheduled fixture on Saturday. Meanwhile, adverse weather conditions led to the abandonment of two other matches—Pacaltsdorp United vs. George at Pacaltsdorp and Sussex vs. Plett Pioneers at D’Almeida.
Union Stars will now face the winner of the upcoming qualifier between defending champions Pacaltsdorp and Sussex, who will compete at D’Almeida on Saturday. Sussex, a newly promoted team this season, will be looking to make an impact as they challenge the two-time reigning champions for a place in the final.
The final log positions is: 1st: Union Stars – 54 points, 2nd: Sussex – 53 points, 3rd: Pacaltsdorp United – 49 points, 4th: George – 37 points, 5th: Knysna Cavaliers – 35 points, 6th: Union Stars II – 17 points, 7th: Harlequins Forces – 14 points, 8th: Plett Pioneers – 5 points.
